Safari Itinerary

Serengeti- Massai Mara Migration & Zanzibar Island

This safari is timed to coincide with the best possibilities of seeing the spectacular river crossings that the Mara is famous for, with tens of thousands of wildebeest pouring across the crocodile-infested Mara River.

Day 1- Arrival in Kilimanjaro International Airpor

On arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport participants will be met by a Regional Tours & Safaris representative and transferred to the Zawadi House. You will spend the rest of the afternoon at leisure or visiting Arusha’s attractions.

Overnight at Zawadi House on bed and breakfast (dinner can be arranged on request)

Day 2: Lake Manyara & Ngorongoro Crater

After breakfast, departure by a 4WD Land Cruiser to Lake Manyara National Park. Nestled at the base of the Great Rift Valley escarpment, Lake Manyara is one of the most beautiful places in Africa. As you enter the gate, the Park is dramatically marked off by lush green vegetation consisting of tall trees of the ground water forest, which provide home to troops of baboons and blue monkeys. Further down, the forest opens up into woodland, grassland, swamps and beyond, the soda lake itself where over 350 species of birds, including the lively flamingo, pelican, sacred ibis, grebe and stork can be viewed (a bird watchers’ paradise). At the southern end of the Park are hot sulphur springs called MajiMoto. Manyara is noted for its numerous buffalo, elephant, giraffe, impala, hippo, as well as a great variety of smaller animals, and of course the very elusive tree-climbing lions. In the afternoon, you will proceed towards Ngorongoro conservation Area. Ngorongoro is the largest unbroken caldera in the world and surrounded by very steep walls rising 610m from the floor. Covering an area of 259 sq.kms, it is considered to be one of the Wonders of the Natural World and is a veritable haven for wildlife. In the afternoon, you will proceed towards Ngorongoro Concervation Area. From each of the 75 rooms, the view into the Crater is stunning.

Diner and overnight at Ngorongo Farm House (full board)

Day 3 - Ngorongoro Crater and Serengeti National P

Leaving early in the morning and taking a picnic lunch with you, you will spend most of the day game driving on the floor of the crater. The bottom of the crater dotted with watering-holes, shelters almost 30 000 animals in an area naturally enclosed by the slopes of the volcano. In the afternoon, you will proceed towards Serengeti National Park probably the greatest park on earth… This park, undoubtedly the most famous in the world, covers over 14 000 sq. km and offers amongst many other things the biggest concentration of big cats in the world (Cheetahs, Lions, Leopards, Wild cats…). Many different landscapes can be found in the Serengeti: Savannah with the big plains to the south, hills & woods to the west, the kopjes area to the east, and bush land to the north. Important rivers (Seronera, Banagi, Grumeti ) also run through the park. Many different species of mammals can be spotted during game drives, elephant, buffalo, giraffes, antelopes… hippo and crocodile can also be found.

Diner and overnight Kubu Kubu Tented Camp - full board

Day 4 - North Serengeti National Park - Kogatende

En route to your accommodation you will enjoy some game viewing, arriving in time for a light lunch. Once you have settled in at Mara Under Canvas Tented Camp you will set off out on your first photographic safari, exploring the woodlands along the Talek river and adjacent plains. Our guide knows the area well, as does your Masai tracker. His immense expertise will be course come into play on issues such as positioning the vehicle, safety distances approach a sighting. You will enjoy sundowners while gazing over the vast plains of the Serengeti ecosystem- a breathtaking and unbeatable way to finish any day! On return to camp there will be hot showers and a sumptuous dinner waiting at the candle-lit mess tent.

Overnight at Mbugani tented Camp on full board.

Day 5 - North Serengeti National Park - Kogatende

Today you will be headed for the key river crossing locations in the Serengeti National Park and your day will be full of large herds of zebras, brindled gnus, Grant’s and Thompson’s gazelles, the odd elephant, plenty of vultures and Marabou storks and large Nile crocodiles. Breakfast will again be taken along and your guide will choose a suitable spot to enjoy the food and views. The rivers pose a major obstacle in the way of the wildebeest migration, and the herds’ momentum and need to follow the rains drives the animals through the river – for the most spectacular wildlife migration event on Earth. Your guide and tracker will study the mood of the herd and gauge where the best massing for a crossing is most likely, they will then position you in order to photograph the event when it eventually happens. Whenever suitable, a spot next to the river will be chosen for lunch. You will head back to Bologonya Under Canvas in the afternoon for showers and a sumptuous meal in the candle-lit mess.

Overnight at Mbugani Tented Camp on full board.

Day 6 - Serengeti National Park and Zanzibar Islan

After breakfast at the lodge, you will be transferred with a game drive en route to Seronera Airstrip for a flight to Zanzibar. Our driver guide will meet you at Zanzibar Airport and transfer to Magical beach of Nungwi (North Coast) and drop you at The Z Boutique Hotel Spice up your life…………Visit Zanzibar ! For many centuries, Persians, Arabs, Chinese, Indians as well as European explorers have sailed the Indian Ocean heading to the coasts of “Zinj” and Zanzibar, creating a true mosaic of different influences and styles. The Swahili culture was born there in the seventh century. Later, Kiswahili became the Lingua Franca throughout East Africa and parts of Central Africa. Stone Town is the ideal place “to feel” the atmosphere, and soul of Zanzibar. Elegant trader’s houses, old coral stone buildings set behind large carved doors, some with Koranic inscriptions in Arabic, narrow alleyways with covered balconies, wonderful shops and tiny stalls, selling local handicrafts; spice and fish market, and in the evening sounds and smells from the Forodhani Gardens where fish and lobster are grilled on barbecues. Zanzibar is known as the Spice Islands and was once the world’s leading producer of cloves. A guided tour to spice farms and plantations is an option here. Here you can see, smell and taste aromatic species, scented plants among them, guava, mangoes, vanilla, cloves, nutmeg, ginger, chillies, black pepper and cinnamon. Zanzibar is an idyllic beach holiday island, its pristine reefs, sandy white beaches and clear blue waters are among the best in the world.
